388,490 young people in the UK are identified as children in need.

And as the cost of living keeps rising, so do these numbers.

Our Mission

At Lending Hope we passionately believe that all children—regardless of ethnic, societel, physical, mental or emotional limitations—deserve to have their basic needs met while also having access to a comprehensive, quality education. We work hard to bridge the gap of inequality by sponsoring vital support that improves their day to day life and makes a solid education both accessible and achievable.

  • Benjamin’s Story

Life for six-year-old Benjamin is far from peaceful. He is fortunate to live with his parents and siblings, however, the erratic behaviour of Ari, his disabled older brother, has taken over their home in a very big way. Their caring mother sets out Benjamin’s clothing each night so he is able to get dressed on his own, and he manages with breakfast, too. But neither of his parents has the presence of mind to make sure he gets to school on time as they are heavily preoccupied with the all-encompassing needs of Ari and their baby daughter.

Needless to say, mornings are challenging for Benjamin. He hates arriving late to school. He hates the look of disapproval in his teacher’s eyes. And he hates trying to make sense of what he’s missed, yet again. When his parents were still unable to drop him off at school in a timely manner despite several requests, the school reached out to Lending Hope.

A volunteer allocated to their case then met with Benjamin’s parents to discuss and evaluate the situation and Benjamin now receives door to door transportation each day, which allows him to arrive at school on time. This contributes greatly to the success of his entire day and helps him feel like everyone else, which is important for his stability and mental wellbeing.

  • Rosie’s Story

Eleven-year-old Rosie was quiet and withdrawn. She never invited any friends over. In fact, she barely interacted with her peers altogether. She also rarely participated in class, and this impeded her success at school in a very big way.

When Lending Hope was alerted to the situation we sponsored her enrollment in play therapy, social skills classes and an after-school dance club. Slowly, ever so slowly, Rosie began to believe in herself and she started to come out of her shell.

She learned to interact with her peers with greater ease, which resulted in increased social inclusion. And it was awesome to see how alive and happy she became after each dance class! Her confidence increased, she began participating more in class, and she eventually acquired her first real friend and even joined her school’s maths competition!

  • Abe’s Story

Despite his age, nine-year-old Abe still struggled with reading. He revised the rules and practised on his own many times, but he still didn’t get it. His sharp memory covered up for his severe lack, but Abe simply couldn’t read well and it began to impact his confidence levels dramatically.

Abe’s parents reached out to Lending Hope, who subsequently sponsored weekly sessions with a reading specialist. These sessions provided Abe with vital reading skills that helped him overcome his learning difficulty, step by arduous step. It didn’t happen overnight, but with his tutor’s help and his fierce determination, Abe is now reading flawlessly and succeeding beyond what he imagined possible.
